What is Restless Legs Syndrome and Nocturnal Myoclonus?
BY NATASHA ZAMBURRODuring the day Restless Legs Syndrome is characterised by an irresistible urge to move the legs. At night, nocturnal myoclonus frequently occurs.
Nocturnal myoclonus is a nerve and muscle disorder causing contractions of muscles and jerking of legs. These disorders are considered to be associated with folic acid and vitamin E deficiency and sometimes iron.
Following supplementation is recommended:
- A minimum of 1,000mcg folic acid is required.
- Vitamin E (Natural) 500mg 1 capsule daily. (If you have high blood pressure begin with 100mg capsules and slowly work up to 500mg over 6 weeks. Do not combine with anticoagulant medication.)
- Iron and Vitamin C
